2022-06-09 - dried, jarred2022-06-15 - finishedSliced very thin, air fryer, 8hr at 135F.
Jar is a ~4oz ball jar. One banana takes up about 2oz.
We’ve tried dehydrating fruits before, but never with any success. They always came out with too much water in them, even after eight hours. I thought this might have to do with fruit just having such a high water content that they needed to be sliced thinly - to maximize surface area for drying. Turns out, that’s correct.
This was only a single (old) banana, there’s room in the air fryer for at least two (without stacking anything on top of another). It’s possible that we could do three or four if we start layering underneath the drying rack, but i have doubts that’ll work for drying (we’ve done it for frying before).
There really isn’t a lot to say, they were dried well and act exactly like any other dried banana you’ve had.
One slight difference is that they almost entirely fail to rehydrate after being soaked in water for 15min - which I’ve had work with many commercial dried bananas. All that accomplishes here is to strip off a layer of flavor and leave the dried banana with less of it.
